Ecological Center, Bio-Dymanic Garden and Ecological Building
The ecological center at Sha'ar La'Adam – Bab Lil'Insan is based on values of considerate treatment of the land, which is common to all of us, as well as joint human work, which connects us to our foundations as human beings. In the Sha'ar La'Adam – Bab Lil'Insan forest, situated between the villages Ka'abiyye and Harduf, we uphold a neutral space, which for the people in the area has no national identity and hosts joint Arab and Jewish work. The center's activity places emphasis on shared work, which enables all levels of the human being (the emotional, the cognitive and that of the will) to be expressed; and on ecological projects, as ecology has the innate possibility to bring the individual back to life's foundation and essence. Such a space creates a study process which frees a person from the national one-sidedness and exposes him or her to a much wider activity common to us as human beings.
Our basic assumption is that by means of common educational group work, it is possible to encourage the individual to develop, to get to know the other person and to work with him or her. Moreover, we believe that artistic and educational activities that focus on egalitarian work, both individually and in groups, are capable of overcoming national separation and are able to bridge over personal and cultural gaps between Jewish and Arab people.
Group Encounters and Ecological Work Experience
We invite groups and individuals to participate in a multi-cultural encounter and to experience ecological work with us in the forest of the Sha'ar LaAdam-Bab Lil'Insan center. Every year, we hold activities for schools, youth movements, international youth groups and more, for an ecological experience which provides an opportunity to know the local people, to create encounters between Arab and Jewish people, to experience and learn about bio-dynamic gardening, ecological building, ecological composting toilets, cooking in an ecological kitchen, correct use of water, art and creativity in nature, and more. This activity can be combined with board and lodging in the forest.
In an attempt to provide for the needs of the community at Sha'ar La'Adam – Bab Lil'Insan, we built an experimental and educational bio-dynamic garden, which aside from providing us with tasty organic vegetables, serves us also as an educational garden for groups and people interested in learning about bio-dynamic gardening.
All the building in the ecological center at Sha'ar La'Adam – Bab Lil'Insan is done using ecological elements only, which take consideration of the soil and the forest environment that surrounds us. Most of the buildings are temporary ones – yurts and lodging tents. The new permanent buildings that have recently been built at the center, were built from local stone, wood and paper, using no materials or elements which wound the earth. All toilets in the forest are composting toilets, so that they do not pollute the soil and do not seep into the ground water. You are welcome to come, take a look and learn about ecological building at suitably prearranged times.
